Dr. Allatia Harris

Vice Chancellor, Strategic Initiatives,

Workforce Development, Community Relations and Diversity

San Jacinto College

Dr. Allatia Harris was named Vice Chancellor of Strategic Initiatives – Workforce, Community and Diversity in March 2013, after serving successfully for five years as the president of the North Campus of San Jacinto College. In her current role, she works with business and industry leaders to ensure that San Jacinto College workforce programs are aligned with the varied industry needs of the greater Houston region. She leads the Continuing and Professional Development programs and the San Jac Maritime Campus.

Dr. Harris is the current Board Chair of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and has also chaired the Board of the North Channel Area Chamber of Commerce. She chairs the Workforce and Education committee of the Economic Alliance-Houston Port Region. She serves on the Board the Greater Houston Partnership’s “UpSkill Houston” and United Way’s Community Impact Committee. She works with an array of community organizations that increase access and opportunity for San Jacinto College’s diverse student body.

Dr. Harris holds a doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin where she has been recognized as a Distinguished Graduate. She has studied at the University of Southern California and earned master’s and bachelor’s degrees in communication from the University of North Texas. Dr. Harris came to San Jacinto College from Dallas College.

Dr. Harris is married to Wayne Dickerson and has one son, Kristoffer, and one grandson, Isaac. She and Wayne enjoy fishing and spending time with their black Labrador Charley.

Dr. Kathrine Swanson

President

Metropolitan Community College – Longview

Kathrine Swanson, Ed.D., has served as the President of Metropolitan Community College’s Longview campus since August 2021. She also served as MCC’s vice chancellor for student success and engagement from 2015 through June 2023.

Dr. Swanson came to MCC from Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, where she served for 10 years as a member of the senior leadership team, last as vice president for student affairs and enrollment management. Before moving into a vice president role, she served as Associate to the President for Institutional Effectiveness and Strategic Initiatives, leading strategic planning, master facilities planning, resource development, government relations, and worked alongside community partners in economic development planning.

Prior to that, Dr. Swanson was associate dean of students at Collin County Community College in McKinney, Texas. During her tenure there, she also held the positions of executive director for community relations, as well as acting provost and director of recruitment and retention.

Dr. Swanson holds a bachelor's degree in business management from Northern Michigan University, a master's in adult and higher education from Montana State University, and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of North Texas. She participated in LEADERS 2001.
